Dr. Stewart Gillies

Dr. Gillies graduated from dental school at Glasgow University in 1976. After a post graduate residency, he moved to Newfoundland where he and his partners established the Avalon Dental Centre, enjoying more than 35 years here in the Far East of the Western World.

He continues to stay abreast of the latest developments in dentistry. To date he has attended more than 100 post grad courses, with a particular interest in implants, esthetic dentistry, precision attachments, restorative dentistry and Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction.

Dr. Gillies has served as an active dental staff member at the Janeway Children’s Hospital for 35 years. He is a former board member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Association and has been the chairman of the Dental Public Health Committee and the Tariff Committee for the Provincial Dental Association. Dr. Gillies is also president of the Canadian International Dental Foundation which is committed to assisting with dental health in undeveloped countries. He has travelled several times to Haiti to assist following their earthquake in 2010.

Outside of the clinic Dr. Gillies enjoys whitewater kayaking, sea kayaking, sailing, woodworking and playing music. Dr. Gillies is married to Penny and they have 3 daughters. He is active in the community involved in assisting refugees new to Canada and in musical and cultural events.
